The Moving On Courses Database is an unique signpost guide to education and training opportunities available to year 11 leavers in Somerset. General Education
These courses vary depending on college/sixth form. They tend to reflect a broad range of educational support and provision and may offer a wide range of qualifications, work tasters, lifeskills and subjects.
Vocational Courses
Vocational courses cover a wide range of vocational areas such as business, motor vehicle, hairdressing, media and sport. Qualifications listed include BTECs (Introductory, First, National), OCR, City & Guilds, NVQs (1,2,3).
A Level Courses
Many AS and A levels are in non-vocational subjects such as psychology, French, maths, history and physics. Others are in vocational subjects like applied art & design, applied business, health & social care and leisure studies.
GCSEs / VGCSEs
Many GCSEs are in non-vocational subjects such as English, maths, science and psychology. VGCSEs are in vocational subjects like applied business and leisure & tourism.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are work based learning in a range of vocational subjects such as accountancy, aeronautical engineering, hairdressing, hospitality & catering, motor vehicle, retail and travel services. Training leads to NVQ 2 or 3, which are intermediate (level 2) and advanced (level 3) qualifications. Training information is supplied by LSC Somerset July 2006.
