Taking to the streets of Bridgwater
Connexions Somerset personal advisers will be taking to the streets of Bridgwater, Taunton, Wells and Yeovil to help young people still not sure what to do when they leave school this summer.
The “advice street doctor” service will run for two days – Saturday June 21 and Saturday August 30.
It is all part of the Connexions Somerset “Sorted 4 September” programme which aims to reduce the number of young people in the county not in any kind of education, employment or training.
Somerset already has one of the best records nationally of tackling youth unemployment.
The number of young people currently not in education, employment or training stands at 4.3 per cent, one of the lowest figures in the country.
Ann Phillips, Contracts Manager with Connexions Somerset, said today: “We have an enviable record in tackling youth unemployment in Somerset and we want to keep it that way.
“That’s what our Sorted 4 September street advice days are all about. We will have stands in the town centres from 10am to 2pm on both days and we would be delighted to meet as many young people – and their parents – as possible.”
Young people who are still undecided about their next move post-school are also being encouraged to call into the Connexions centres in Bridgwater, Frome, Minehead, Taunton, Street and Yeovil at any time.
Ann Phillips added: “It is not unusual for young people still to be unsure about what to do in September and our personal advisers have years of experience in offering advice on the wide range of options that are out there.”
