Shoplifting

People shoplift for many reasons, a few of these reasons are:

1. The greatest number of shoplifters are amateurs and are probably in their early twenties or youth's. This may be because they have little money or luxuries of their own. They also may be tempted by what they see in the shops or on the street.

2. There are also shoplifters which are known as professionals who make their living by shoplifting, often to customer's specification. They cost stores to lose out on a lot of stock and income.

3. There are a few shoplifters who steal because of mental health problems like kleptomania, which is a neurotic impluse to take things.

4. People who steal to order, which is a way of getting money or drugs by shoplifting for people.

People think that they will never get caught and that's what I thought until it happened to me.

There are many consequences that happen when you get caught, some of the short term consequences are:

bullet pointYou get put in a cell.
bullet pointGet in trouble with the police and your parents.

bullet pointYou could end up going into custody.
bullet pointYou could end up going to prison.
bullet pointYou make a bad name for yourself which is hard to loose.

People often consider that shoplifting is a victimless crime but it isn't. In fact shoplifting has lots of victims. The general public generally have to pay prices that can go up as much as 10% to cover for the losses. The many victims of shoplifting are:

bullet pointYour own family if you are a shoplifter.
 bullet pointThe store.
bullet pointThe store owners and their families.
 bullet pointWorkers at the store.
 bullet pointYourself.
 bullet pointThe general public.

Some of the effects on the stores are:

 bullet pointThe inconvenience.
bullet pointTime consuming for store owners.
 bullet pointLoss of stock.
 bullet pointIntimidation.

These effects can also effect the way the store feels about youth's.
